  • The opportunity

  • We are looking for a Property Management Surveyor to join our Property team and play a pivotal role in managing our extensive retail portfolio. Our shops and stores contribute vital funds to power lifesaving research into cardiovascular disease.

Your day-to-day will involve interpreting lease obligations and providing professional advice, ensuring a safe trading environment for our staff and volunteers. You'll also take charge of business rates across the portfolio, manage external rating consultants, and handle budgeting and payment approvals.

You'll be the expert actively resolving landlord-related disputes and maintenance issues. You will act in a timely fashion to resolve complex matters and repair issues across the retail estate.

A key part of the role will be working closely with the Building Surveyors, Building & Maintenance and Facilities Management teams, including chairing regular meetings to ensure a joined-up approach to property management matters.

You’ll lead cross-team discussions to agree clear ownership, avoid duplication, optimise costs and challenge landlords to undertake works where they are responsible under the lease or wider property obligations.

The position has line management responsibility for one surveyor.

    About you

We are looking for someone with excellent knowledge and experience of property law and handling property management cases. You’ll be able to interpret and provide detailed advice on lease obligations to ensure landlords comply with their obligations.

As our successful candidate you will be a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS/FRICS) and have extensive experience within Land/Estate/Property Management. You’ll have a full understanding of Codes of Practice and Landlord & Tenant Legislation and a sound understanding of current property issues and markets including service charges.

With a thorough understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation, you’ll lead on Fire Risk Assessment actions allocated to the Property team.

To succeed in this role you will:

    • be highly organised with excellent attention to detail
    • have excellent communication skills, interpersonal and influencing skills
    • be able to develop and maintain strong working relationships, within the BHF and with external partners
    • be a results-oriented individual
    • have strong decision-making skills that are analytical, commercial and pragmatic
    • be highly proficient with MS Office
    • have experience dealing with complex, legal, landlord-related cases
    • have a successful track record of achieving results within the retail industry

    Working arrangements

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week in our London office. This may vary from time to time so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.
